Starburst Milkweed

These cold hardy upright growing Milkweeds mature to a height of 2 feet. Blooming continuously they enjoy full sun to shade in a warm climate and their flowers are 2 to 3 inches across.  The milkweed is the host plant for not only Monarch butterflies but many other species as well including: American ladies, painted ladies, red admirals, swallowtails, fritillaries, and hairstreaks (for nectaring).  It will also draw hummingbirds (and hummingbird clearwing moths) to the garden for nectar.  Monarchs actually lay their eggs on the Milkweed.
Milkweed is essential for the existence of  Monarch butterflies.

(Monarch butterfly pictured left). Milkweed is the only plant the Monarch caterpillar (pictured below) can eat.
